Frank, have you read the sticky about this section?
We, the moderators, tried to give this section rules to make it enjoyable and livable.
This means also that when a thread becomes too heavy or "poisonous", it's not useful to keep the discussion going.
You can't say that you haven't been give enough space to express your opinion. The thread has had 125 answers before being closed, and it has been interesting and well debated.
After so many posts, it's been closed not for some censor-like attitude, but because the topic had given what it could give. It was time to move on to other topics, and I hope they will be as successful as "Death in America" thread has been.
But focusing on one topic forever brings to repeating one's own ideas many times, until it gets boring, and it can also lead to polemic posts and such.
Finally, I want to say that the thread has been closed by Paolo. He's the one who puts the money in the site and the forum, so if he says "Everyone must go buy a pink dress and dance with rabbit puppets or I ban you", everyone must do so to avoid a ban.
This to say that it's opinion is the one that really matters, even if someone doesn't agree with his decision there's nothing to do but accept them. I personally agree with Paolo's decision, it was time to move on from that topic, if anyone doesn't deal with it.

Frank, I agree with Dan.
To be noted, there is a fine line between controversial and ignorance. The thread became offensive and off-topic. I'd like to think that we give people plenty of room to voice their opinions on this site, of course within reason. You should know better than anyone how flexible we are.

Frank,
Even you and I can't argue with that - at least not effectively! Our opinions are only read by this community by the grace of Paolo!

--Carlo | Haaa …lets not go there, but I would like to see Paolo get more involved with our discussions “that’s basically all they really are”; I guess we are not all built the same when it comes to sensitivity or disguising an argue mental conversation that is stimulating the mind. The thread “Death to America’s foundational issue was a “Nuclear issue” this is the biggest topic circulating the internet.
Yesterday, we had North Korea launch a nuclear war head which defied the UN security act once again. Where does the global community draw the line? We are dealing with incredible challenges around the world...from this issue and human rights issues.
Yesterday in Afghanistan the Muslim extremists of the Taliban members beat and tortured a young teenage girl in the in the middle of the street while other men or people all round just stood their and watched. Today, for the first time Afghani women took their head scarfs off and went on to the streets in protest. We discuss cultures and how different they are but do we have to support cultures that oppress, discriminate, and sexually abuse the majority of their citizens? We get to share our views. Turkey is involved in a long struggle with human rights issue. Today, many men took to the streets in protest while President Obama made his speech in Istanbul. He wants Turkey’s President to get more involved with the Islamic nations to overview their laws regarding human rights issue.
These topics open doors for those who are not Italian to get involved on the Life of Italy forum. Let them see that our Italian culture is passionate and share the social concerns of even those who live in these countries that abuse human rights on a larger scale share their views.

Frank you're missing the point. We are not saying that you cannot get passionate about a topic or share your thoughts in a discussions. The point is that you have to do it within reason, and responsibly. And i'm not just talking to you, this goes for everyone. Voicing an opinion, stereotyping an entire race, and verbally abusing someone via the forum are all very different from each other. All we are asking, as moderators, are too keep the discussions friendly......and most importantly......a DISCUSSION, and not so much a public lashing.
Make sense?
