Good afternoon! I am a graduate student in the United States and I am looking for some help. For part of my masters thesis I am looking at how Italian culture affects what they consume. I have already been to Italy twice working on this project, but I am having trouble with this last part now that I am back in the States for good. I can't find any information/statistics on diet pills and diet fads. Italians that I have spoken with told me that diet pills and diet companies are very big in Italy, but I would like some stats to back that up. Does anyone have any advice where I could go for that information? Thank you! Grazie mille!

Lived in Italy for 2 years and went back for over a month this past summer and never saw one obese
Italian, credo. Have been to France 4 times and never saw anybody obese there neanche. Recently went
out to eat with some friends from France(in U.S.)and we saw this very obese lady(poverina).
My French friends shook their heads and said people like that don't exist in France.

i knew diet pills are popular because you can see the advertisemnets almost everyday in the television, not to mention cellulite remover and hair removal creams..they are everywhere! mags, tv, newspaper

there's one brand, shown in the tv called 'giornoetnotte' or 'giornonotte', can't remember which is which and always during the promo, there's a letter from one university saying this products works and there's a website too for this product, maybe you can have some contacts with the company thru their websites...

i too have been living in spain, france and italy (alternating between these 3 in the past 2 years) and once in a while, i can see some obese people but not often though..i think in these 3 countries, the incidence of obesity is quite low especially in italy with the slow food movement going strong (they are even present in the annual Vinitaly in verona the last time i went in april)...

It is a huge business here, especially through the erboisteria -- natural herbs sellers, so it might be hard to get your hands on the total market stats. Your data will also be skewed by the numbers of bulimics. Just go to the ladies' room after a big dinner, and you'll see what I mean...
