Exclamation Your Privacy on Life In Italy

**Your security on this website**

I'm sure everyone is very aware of the many scams that go around the internet. You've heard of the emails from people claiming to need money, or claiming to be someone else and asking for your private information.

Although this site is moderated very heavily, the fact of the matter is anyone can join at any given time. If you receive a pm, e-mail or other type of notification, NEVER provide your personal information. Sharing your e-mail is one thing as you may want to converse more often with someone you talk with regularly on the site, but other information should not be shared.

This is just a reminder as i've seen a recent increase in strange postings with links, and mass pm's sent out.

Just be very careful with what you disclose. If at any time you suspect anything, please notify one of our moderators or administrators. We would be happy to address any issues regarding the site and it's users.

Thank you

( the following has nothing to do with the site)
I received 2 strange messages recently
1- some one says he wants to transfer money from somewhere to somewhere and he would like to know my account number to transfer the money to it in exchange of a sum of money, I wanted to report him but didn't really know how.
2- that my e-mail won some sort of a competition, but they didn't ask for my personal information yet, I thought it might be a scam and didn't reply. although the money is tempting lol. but I don't understand why would some one make such competition and just give away money ???

Very good examples Nouran. This is the kind of stuff we need to watch out for. Send me the message context with the user name that sent it and i'll look into it. The same goes for anyone else. Please let us know immediately if something like that occurs.

Just yesterday I got a suspicous email from some saying they read my profile on my.lifeintialy.com and wanted to be my friend here is the body of the email...

"Dear Good Friend.
My name is Peace Yak, Dear it was very great when i got your profile in my.lifeinitaly.com,I like your profile, you can see my profile. I want to be your friend, for your reference, In case you find it suitable, please ask me for my Personal details on my mail box Regards,
Miss Peace Yak.
Email: "

I looked for this person on the list of registered users - but did not find them - so figured it was some sort of phishing strategy to try to confirm my email address - so that they can spam me.

I haven't logged on to this site in a few months but also got the same PM from that person. Wasn't even going to open it because it seems suspicious but I did and immediately deleted it.
I did check out the profile and there IS a person registered with that name. She/he has not posted however...

I think a reasonable response would be to tell her that you can be friends through this site and you are not comfortable releasing private information, after all she could only mean good.

Thanks Carlo

We are aware of this person. In fact we all received that same PM. The User has been banned. I encourage everyone to delete that message in their inbox and not respond to the linked email address.

I must add that anybody should keep their email private ( visible only to administrators ie Me and Justin ) - private is the deafult value when people first register but some member changed - To change privacy profile
http://my.lifeinitaly.com/profile.php?do=privacy

My personal email is public but I am forced to since I administer the forum
To hide your email go to this page and remove the checkmark from
"receive email from other members" -
http://my.lifeinitaly.com/profile.php?do=editoptions
Please do not remove the check mark from "receive email from administrators" or I will now be able to contact members
