Apartment rentals
Hello!
Don't listen to the horror stories of renting an apartment in Italy. It is actually not as difficult as you would expect. You can use rental sites such as easystanza.it, which covers the entire country, or postoletto.it. Craigslist often has rentals, but they tend to be pricier than the market and are geared towards shorter term rentals.
You can expect to pay 2 months deposit when you move into an apartment, possibly more if you have a contract. It is possible to take a long term apartment without a contract, which may be less hassle and give you more freedom. There are many corporate apartment sites as well in the major cities of Rome or Milan.
I suggest not taking an apartment until you arrive because it's important to know a little bit about the city and the neighborhoods. Although you should definitely plan and set up appointments to see apartments for rent beforehand, I wouldn't make any definite plans without seeing the apartment in person and the area since you are staying for such a long period.
Good luck and feel free to contact me with any questions!
ciao ciao
