| | Hello Everyone Hello everyone!
I am new to this website, I just joined this morning. I am a beginner at learning Italian. I am a senior in highschool and am being taught online from Mr. Mauro, my teacher from Southern Italy. I, and my class, meet with him via a live session on Mondays and Wednesdays for about an hour each time. So far I have learned basic greetings, gender, colors, months, days, numbers, etc. I am very much so enjoying this language.
I have been wanting to visit Italy badly. Maybe after a few years of learning the language, I will go.
Anyway, i do have a question, and now I am getting to it.
I was looking into purchasing the Rosetta Stone V.3 Italiano 1,2,3. Would you suggest this?
Thanks a lot! |

Rosetta Stone is very expensive.
I wrote up something to respond with, but I don't think I can give it a fair review, so I've started again:
I have Italian 1-3 and French 1.
I have completed Lesson 1 of Italian and the program is very well done from a software point of view...nice pictures, good lay-out, logical design, etc.
As far as learning the language, I know words for cat, dog, egg, man, walking, etc etc. Words I could have learned for free from a dictionary.
For the price, I don't think it's worth it YET. I haven't completed the course, so maybe there is a magic formula at the end I haven't learned yet that will justify the cost.
I'm not sure if they have a demo available, but definately worth checking into. My local mall has a kiosk that you should probably look for so you can see for yourself.
In the end, for me, it's not yet worth the cost and being a high school student, I would assume you have less money than me!
OH and...
benvenuto!!!

Samantha,
I am a high school foreign langauge teacher so I am very happy that you have a great interest in learning Italian! It's good to see young people in the USA interested in world languages and cultures! Keep up the good work and welcome to our community! As for the Rosetta Stone.....don't waste your money!! Pay attention in class, speak Italian as often as you can, and at the earliest opportunity go to Italy and IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE CULTURE! That is how you will learn.

Benvenuta Samantha,
If you have the opportunity to go to Italy before you learn the language-go! Everyone I encountered in Italy had some understanding of English and was very willing to help! Enjoy the forum.

Yes, out of the languages I was able to choose from, I am so glad I decided upon Italian. I try to carry my pocket size dictionary with me everywhere. When I go to the library or resturants, I like to look up the word for everything. it is a simple way to become familiar with the words.
Well, the Rosetta Stone thing... I noticed someone from my area was selling the Italiano one for $80 used, and I figured it wouldn't hurt to buy it. I am going to try it out.
I am glad I have the teacher I have. He is very helpful. You teachers are the best!! | | The Following User Says Thank You to Samantha For This Useful Post: | |

| | Samantha ,welcome
Dove abite in Pennsylvania? I grew up in the Gettysburg area.
One other way to learn is to take those little yellow sticky things and write or type the Italian word and place near the object , put them on a door (puerto) window(ventana) etc and as you go around your house it will become second nature to you.
I also found a great little book, Menu Master, comes in lots of languages, but it breaks down all the courses of the Italian meal and what is in them. Great little aid. I still use it because all the regions are diferent.
When you get the chance to go, do not hesitate.
Ciao bella

| | Yes, I live about an hour south of Pittsburgh. I have been here my whole life -- almost 18 years! :-) I visited Gettysburgh before. Your area and my area is so nice because we have so much history surrounding us. I live about 15 minutes from Fort Necessity. Very nice.
Thanks everyone for being so nice.
And, yes! I'd love to chat so I can learn more. Honestly, though, I might not be much of a help to you, because I do not know much!! I'll try my best, though! | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
