I started my seeds this weekend. I started 4 kinds of pomodori ,2 types of mellanzanne,3 types of pepperone, also some lettuce. I built a stand for my flourescent light fixture. So now all I do is wait .
My Father in Law is a Master Gardener and said he read that on the 6 of March , the moon and earth will be aligned with another planet and on that day (on the east coast)we should be able to put out cold weather crops because the temperature will be warmer then for the next six weeks. This only happens every couple of years or so.
I live in Virginia Beach, Va and out daffodils have been up for more than a week now. I bit early for this part of the country.

Danno,

Very intersting about the allignment of the moon. Gardernning used to be done with out books and using the solar calendar so I'm going to try it, thanks. Cape cod is in the same growing area as washington , we get the golf stream and it makes the springs long and grey but we dont freeze. I have cold frames and I'll start by putting them in there first. Good luck let me know how it works for you.

Well, some of my seeds are starting to sprout! Tomatoes came up first. We have had temperatures outside for the last few days of only 28 for a high! The 6th of March outlook is for 60 degrees, I'll see how the ground is on Saturday before I put any cold crop seeds in the ground. It's pretty well frozen right now.

Yes, I've never been able to keep a houseplant alive for long, so the fact that our little makeshift garden is doing well is just exciting. Read about it on my blog: Eco-exterminating & Our Surprise Garden - Italian Online community - Italian forum

I made a raised bed garden last year on the sunny side of my house . I expanded it a bit this year and not have 16 tomato plants in and 4 Eggo planto plants in along with onions, friarielli, beets. I still have my pepper plants and more egg plants to plant. I did the topsy turvy planting of 2 tomato plants and I will take some pictures and post them as they progress.
Maybe next year you can try the raised bed garden, it's very easy to do.

I give up, what are "chitted potatoes"? I planted my potatoe seed in my garden and they are doing well also. I went to a garden center this weekend and looked at their tomato plants and saw one called "BIG ZAC" since my grandson's name is Zachary ,we bought one for him. These tomatoes can get as big as 6 pounds
or almost 3 kilo!
I can't wait for then to grow.

Got tomato plants out. The odd thing is we still have a tomato plant from last year and it's still producing.
It lasted through the whole winter season. Only in California.

This summer i am growing heirloom tomatoes such as "Big Zac" and " Giant Belgiums" using a deep water culture method instead of conventional soil.
