Paolo is right, I never ate them, it's so far from our usual food!
And never even heard of someone who does!
It must indeed be something either too old or too geographically far for Naples

Paolo, are you sure that 'osei' are not quails ? I ate "polenta con osei" many times but always thought they were quails... if they're not, what the heck they are ? Thrushes, doves, canaries !?!! ...MA CHE SCHIFO !!!

it is not much diffusing to eat sparrows (in Roma I've never seen it) but I know that it is used in country near Roma, in particular who go huntings (in winter, the period of hunting, even I think that is prohibited to hunt them): la polenta..

Max, Quail hunting is big in some parts of the U.S. such as the midwest in states like Kansas,
Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska and probalby the whole southern United States too. Funny how quails
are so protected until it's hunting season. There are also many other types of game birds eaten
in the U.S. such as doves and pheasants. People make a big deal out of hunting pheasants and
stuff them and use them as trophies.

In fact just last Sept. my cousin took me hunting for doves in Kansas. We had the shot guns and
all. The doves had moved on south for the winter so didn't have to kill any. We went back to
the house and shot skeet right out in is front yard.
