Soldiers Massacred in Texas

This is horrible!

A solider suspected of fatally shooting 12 and wounding 31 at Fort Hood in Texas on Thursday is not dead as previously reported, Army Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said Thursday evening.

A civilian officer who was wounded in the incident shot the suspect, who is "in custody and in stable condition," Cone told reporters.

"Preliminary reports indicate there was a single shooter that was shot multiple times at the scene," Cone said at a news conference. "However, he was not killed as previously reported."

In today's news from life in Italy I learned that a European Court of Human Rights wants to ban crucifixes in Italian Classrooms.

Personaly, I don't agree with the ruling and it bothers me when this happens in the USA as well.

I understand that everyone has different beliefs but I don't see why the crucifix should bother anyone. If you are not Catholic then you don't have to look at it or venerate it. Nobody is making you pray to Jesus. Why can't people just accept the fact that Italy is a Catholic Country and get over it?

If I went to a Muslim Country I would expect to hear the call to prayer in public. I surely wouldn't complain about that because I would be a foreigner to the land!

I am wondering what you all think about this.

Messina bridge

I have read that there have been thoughts of building the Messina bridge which if constructed would connect Sicilia with the mainland. Are southern Italians generally in favor of this project or against it? Would it be a waste of money or could it stimulate the economy? The thoughts of anyone who lives in Italy would be appreciated but in particular I was wondering what you thought Zidanie since you probably live the closest to Calabria of anybody here on the forum. (I am assuming that the bridge would connect Calabria and Sicilia.) Is there any talk about this topic in Naples?

My heart goes out to the families of the Italian paratroopers killed in Kabul on Thursday. I was at Rome Airport last Sunday and they were there too, flying back to Afghanistan after having taken leave with their loved ones.

Man accused of supplying prostitutes for Berlusconi parties is arrested in Italy.

Mr Tarantini has admitted to Bari prosecutors that he supplied 30 women for 18 parties hosted by Mr Berlusconi,
some of whom were paid to have sex with the Prime Minister. He said that he set out to get to know the Italian
leader in order to make use of his power and influence, according to detailed accounts of his
interrogations in the Italian press.

He told investigators: �To this end I incurred considerable expense to enter into his confidence. Knowing of his
interest in the female sex, I brought him girls who I presented as my friends � keeping quiet about the
fact that I had paid them."

Mr Tarantini added that he wanted to �establish a network in the public administration because I thought that
these days girls and cocaine were the key to access and success in society�.

He said some of the women � many drawn from the world of show business � were paid �1,000 (�878) for �sexual services�
while others were paid expenses only. The Prime Minister has always denied paying women for sex or any other
impropriety, and is not himself under investigation.

Mr Berlusconi is reported to have told aides that he will step down and call early elections in October if a law passed
last year giving him immunity from prosecution for as along as he holds high office is overturned by Italy's Constitutional Court.:eek:

As fears of gun limits boost firearm sales, shops nationwide in the U.S. struggle to cope with demand for ammo and guns.

You know some how I just don't feel too safe knowing that all this ammo and guns are around. As if things weren't bad enough before.

What a contrast to this past summer when I was in Trento, Italy(actually north of Trento in Fondo, Italy).
I've never felt safer in my whole life. No gangs, no drive by shootings, just peaceful people etc. etc. A pure heaven of a place. Paradise on earth,
with cool green forests, lakes an streams.
Do we have to move to Italy to be or feel safe?! At least places like Fondo, Italy.

Those bloody drinking tours in Rome

When I was in Rome recently, I saw this tour.

I suppose Like most people I enjoy a drink, but these organised binge drinking tours are stupid and does nto say musch about the people running it and those buying the tickets.

From a persoanl perspective after living in Ireland in Ireland for nearly 7 years, that people who drink this much have issues. People who drink like this do not have anything tooffer on a social front and are insecure and once you develop this pattern of drinking when young continues on.

The binge drinking and violence that takes place in Asutralia, Ireland and UK are now spreading to one of the greatest cities of the world, if this is what you want to do, just stay home.

I was so furious when I saw this company whwn I was in Rome as i absolutley abhor this drinking culture and it one fo the chief reasons I want to go to italy. Grrrrr.
