Buying my house in Italy

Buying my house in Italy

Finally, now , pushing 50, I finally got my house in Italy. My town of choice was Bolsena.
I always liked that part of the country and the Lake. The lake appears almost out of nowhere on the left going north from Viterbo-Montefiascone. All of a sudden the ladscape chages and commercial buildings disapper to give space to the view of the Lake. Bolsena lake, besided being one of the cleanest in Europe
is just beautiful. Ok It does not have...

Memories of eggplants in Sicily

Posted 08-31-2007 at 04:11 PM by justindemetri

Well the eggplants in my family's gardens are getting ready to be picked. Of course they can be found all the time in the supermarket but there is something about the ones from the garden that take me back to the great meals I've had in Italy.

I usually make a pasta sauce out of the egglplants, similar to a dish I loved in Palermo with a thick tomato and eggplant sauce over penne. There is a local restaurant here in Gloucester that makes it, calling it "pasta siciliana"...

Why do I want to learn Italian?

Posted 08-31-2007 at 06:41 AM by bubbles (Italian Musings)

I have often been asked this question, by my friends, my husband, my classmates in Italian class, my Italian friends, even by Paolo when we first started working together. The implicit question is: Why does someone like you who lives in Singapore and has never been to Italy even once want to learn Italian? (My husband suggested Mandarin instead, it would be more useful, he said)

Yes, of course, I would like to learn Italian because then I can talk fluently with my Italian...

Breaking the Ice

Posted 08-30-2007 at 10:02 PM by justindemetri

I've been writing online for about five years but I am pretty new to blogging.
It seems like this is the way to go if you plan on being a writer today and it is sort of fun posting short blurbs instead of all the research I have to do to write an article.

A blog for Life in Italy is a natural progression from the great discussions everyone has been having on the forum. We now have a growing community of talented individuals, all of us passionate about Italian life and culture...
