REtirement is tiring!

Posted 12-13-2009 at 02:29 AM by Danno

My wife and I never went on the Danube cruise, we spent the time in Pennsylvania taking care of her Dad, who at 91 had knee replacement surgery. We stayed at his and her Mom's home to help them out through the rehab.
I never really knew what it was like working in an Assisted Living Home! That's exactly what it was like.
Dad was a trooper, he fought thru the pain and after 2 weeks his pain got less...

Did she, or didn't she?

Well, so many people have been asking me if the proud Ms. Peacock did it in the bedroom with a kitchen knife, I thought I'd put my hands into the fray surrounding Italy's first O.J. trial (leave it to the Americans to export this insane media frenzy, too).

Just like everyone poring the Italian papers, I was utterly convinced Amanda Knox was guilty, along with her Harry Potter-like boyfriend, Raffaelle Sollecito. Like the Preppy Murder 20 years before, could it be, as the prosecutor...

Posted 12-06-2009 at 06:52 PM by burntbythetuscansun (Burnt by the Tuscan Sun, The True Story of Living in Italy)

Spending time in the USA during my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, well, makes me think about all those wonderful Thanksgiving Days celebrated by all us 'expats' in our adopted country. Sex, Lies and Dvds

History has just been made: An Italian politician just went down for his sexual picadillos, in what is a very first for this country. I mean, we’re talking about the place that gave us Caligula, Popes with 17 kids, Caesar & Cleopatra and then Marc Antony & Cleopatra, and Emperors gifting sumptuous villas for their (very open) mistresses. It was the Italians who remarked upon seeing photos of Gary Hart on the ‘Monkey Business’ with a pretty blonde (who was not his wife), that he most likely...

Happy International Pasta Day!

Posted 10-25-2009 at 08:40 PM by burntbythetuscansun (Burnt by the Tuscan Sun, The True Story of Living in Italy)

Wednesday may have been Prince spaghetti day, but, today is International Pasta Day! And, judging from the latest statistics, Americans are eating pasta even more than once a week. In sunny Rome, we had a beautiful day to celebrate, with all kinds of pastas being served in the shadow of Castel Sant’Angelo. Heck, they even had a kiddie area where they were making Colosseum replicas out of the boxes!

It seems everything’s happening in Bella Roma this fall: The Festival del Cinema, a...
