Finding a Home in Rome

Question: Do you have any recommendations about finding an
apartment in Rome?
Answer: This question comes up a lot, so here are my 4 best tips for finding a home in Rome:
Tip #1. When you arrive, pick up a free paper called Porta Protuese. It has classified ads in Italian. If you know even a little Italian (and have an Ital/Eng dictionary handy) you’ll do fine. These ads run by Italians will have more housing options and less expensive choices than going through a realtor.
Tip #2. Another publication is Wanted in Rome (also available on the web www.wantedinrome.com), an English-language magazine available on newsstands. The listings here will be more expensive but you might luck upon a good deal. And my idea of expensive and yours may be many euros apart.
Tip #3. Another option is to check cafes in the neighborhood that you’re interested in living. Most have bulletin boards with postings looking for roommates or flats to let.
Tip #4. If you’re going to be studying Italian, many of the schools provide housing options while you’re enrolled. Check their websites or call to inquire.
I hope this is helpful. Please let me know what works for you.

Finding a home in Rome:
Excellent subject : people ask me about it constantly.
If you know the area where you will want to live ( very important ) you could call all the Agenzia Immobilare in those areas. We can provide the phone numbers on this site if you post the area in Rome where you are looking for. However you will have to call those agencies and most of them will not speack a clear English.
Unfortuanately the most obvious place where student ask are the schools like point #4 above : Tip #4. If you’re going to be studying Italian, many of the schools provide housing options while you’re enrolled. Check their websites or call to inquire.
However note that many Amercan schools take a hefty cut on the already high rental fee so the student is better do it by himself / herself. A solution is to go there for a short term period and look for a place.
