Cravings here, cravings there!

As I was about to upload Italy pictures and videos, I see that Life in Italy now has the blog option open (yey!), so I will copy one post from my blog in here as well
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Expats abroad, have you eeeever been surprised by a sudden craving for that stake, hamburger or burrito you used to take for granted? or maybe a TV show that you used to sit and watch with your sister while you laughed and threw popcorn at the screen, but you can't see anymore from abroad (at least not without some weird foreign voice stepping in for Dr. McDreamy!).
You're happily settled in to your routine abroad. Suddenly, as the tip tap of your shoes echoes through the historic center of a picturesque Italian town, a scent or sound sneaks up behind you and brings back vivid memories of home in an unexpected nostalgic instant... and depending on your hormone levels, it might even make you cry
!
Yes, you shake your head in disbelief. Since you are quite happy and the funny thing was that before you left, you couldn't get enough of the country you were moving to!
Aaah, that's the way it works sometimes!
Today I received a little tip to cure my European transition blues! Which will also will help ease my nostalgia of home when I'm in Rome!
Of course I use foreign television and music to practice my languages, but I imagine that during that first month or so in Rome, once in a while it will help to sit down with popcorn and watch "House MD" and "Grey's Anatomy" to get a little bit of the States abroad!
So, I thought to pass the word to Americans about to move abroad and want to watch foreign programs to practice languages and American expats abroad nostalgic for their favorite show back home; Check out joox.net, satelite tv and NetFlix' online viewing feature!
Of course, you should always try to live a genuine experience while abroad, but once in a while, we just need a little bit of home with us!
In the end, you will still be sitting in centuries old apartment building while a cute guy stares at you from the window a few feet in front and Italian sirens merge with passing Italian conversations on the street below. But if you close the blinds and put on earphones you might be able to transport your self for a few hours to your other far away "home".
Now, if I could only cure my burrito food cravings in Rome, that would be great!
Ciao Fafalina
I love your passionate blogs …There is a remedy too cure your aching heart and cravings, just spread your wings and head down south to a seaport town called Amantea the “ America of Calabria“. There are days during my site inspections with clients visiting from abroad .. USA and Canada that have followed my journey and escape route to an ever lasting balanced diet of English/Italian happiness in the South of Italy. I cure there inner cravings by skipping past a the local Trattoria and stuffing there homesick faces at Cha..Cha Cha’s. The only little Italian American Spanish eatery that makes burrito’s and there is no extra charge for watching re-runs of General Hospital.
Although, once we leave the eatery and they stare out into the crystal blue sea as there eyes roam above the olive groves from the rolling green hill tops and vineyards dangling from the mountains, they quickly turn around too tell me that they enjoyed that “hot spicy Calabrese Sausage better” and when can we see the next property for sale in Calabria.
Salve
