18 year resident in Italy questions the truth behind the Italians' claim to fame: Their 'Quality of Life' while providing an irreverent insider's view of Life in Italy. Uncategorized Entries with no category  | I admit it: I've been living in Italy for 16+ years, and, although I drive like a Formula 1 expert, I don't have an Italian driver's license.
This is not to thumb my nose at the system, the problem actually rests with the U.S.A. They don't accept Italian licenses in America, so, the Italians don't accept ours. Both countries, however, don't have a problem allowing drivers -- from countries where they don't even have cars -- onto their roads; so go figure. But, really, I cannot see the logic....

From where I sit here in Bella Roma, we are undecidedly into an unprecedented phase of global warming, but, I’m not complaining. Each day, you wake up to another beautiful blue sky. It’s simply gorgeous.
But, I remember a few year’s back, when the mercury hit well over 100 degrees for weeks. That was the infamous summer when the French declared that 8000 people had perished prematurely due to the heat. And where, we all believed the figure to be much higher here in Italy, but nobody ever...

Ahhh..summertime in Bella Roma, when all the piazzas and palaces are alive with the sound of music. I love the jazz fests all over Italy, and, seeing concerts in Ancient Amphitheatres adds to the experience.
I am still filled with the joys and sounds of an amazing concert from last year, held in Rome’s Ancient Port of Ostia Antica, right in the ancient theatre, stone seats and all. The concert, entitled La Grande Notte del Soul (the Grand Night of Soul) way exceeded my expectations:...

Since moving to Rome, I’ve become quite popular with visitors. I mean, in Milan I think I had 17 guests in 12 years. In Rome, I have something like 17 visitors a month. For some reason, though, I don’t think they’re just coming to visit me, but, heck, I’ll play along for the fun of it. As a result, and because I actually work with the crème de la crème of Italy’s museums, people are always asking me for some extra ‘insider’s scoop’ about what to do in Italy that’s good.* ...

Today, all of the residents of my little quartiere here in Roma were invited to an inauguration of the piazza which they just put in, replete with trees, shrubs, benches…all surrounded by carefully bricked walls; the whole thing so inviting, I wager that by tonight, the graffiti artists will have their own little inauguration party: I give it 72 hrs. max before those cute walls are totally covered in soccer slogans and hieroglyphs on an order only dreamt of by Egyptian sovereigns.
