Hi there,
I found this forum today while searching for authentic Italian recipes, and I'm hoping that you can help me (I'll have to post to the recipe section for that). I was born in Brooklyn NY, but given up for adoption 16 days after my birth to an Italian American couple. My birth parents are Italian American as well - birth dad is Sicilian American and my birth mom is Bolognese American. My mom (real mom/adopted) is Genovese Italian, and my dad is also Italian but I'm not sure from what region his ancestors are from. My great grandma on my mom's side was born & raised in Genoa. She was such a fantastic lady, and she taught me how to cook when I was a little girl. She passed a long time ago, and luckily I was able to get one of her recipes from her. There are, however, a couple recipes that I just can't find anywhere, and it's possible they are "hers" and I'm out of luck forever, but I'm hopeful.
My Italian heritage is very important to me, and I think that has a lot to do with my adoption. I found my birth parents and while I'm not in contact with them, I'm in contact with 2 of my 3 sisters. I was actually the 4th and youngest and they grew up with my birth parents. Long story. Anyway - my daughter is also bugging me to learn Italian because she is learning it in school. I'd really love to find the time.
I look forward to getting to know you and learning what this forum is all about.
