On Friday the whole town of Rocca Priora (in the Roman Castles Rome) cringed when most everyone received a similar bill in the mail. Incredible but not illegal?
This time it was the water company--- they were attempting to collect money from 1995, 1996, 2000 and on and on. People opened bills that amounted to 800 euro! Some had bills of 450, others 275. It took them 12 years to figure out you didnt pay? And the people I know told me they did pay! This must be illegal!! But if the people are ignorant and pay it, they get their indicent business accomplished. It seems as though whenever the phone company or water ccompany or others need money-- that pull these scams! I call them scams, and they should be penalized for these actions!!!

I've been told by a friend who works for the Agenzia delle Entrate (the tax office) that you should keep all receipts for any bill you pay for 7 years because if you can't prove you have paid it you have to pay it again. I don't know about the previous 5 years, I'll him next time I see him!

Oh my! While I am glad I wasn't on the receiving end, I wonder how long it will take them to send out the second notice of the past due accounts????
