I am glad to see Italy experiment with a new logo and "branding" their country. I think normally this is a very good idea. I am a graphic design student studying advertising, and know how powerful symbology is in our culture. I absolutely fell in love with Italy when I visited and would probably move there at any opportunity.
However, I have to be honest about the new logo. It's terrible! There is no way I would have ever guessed that the green thing was a "t". It looks like a golfing green or a pickle with a nose. The 2 forms are totally separate spacially and conceptually. This does not represent at all what Italy has to offer. All of the beautiful art work, countryside, cities and people! This logo is just ugly.
Come on Italy ... you can do way better!!

I do actually like the logo, I am not sure however about branding a country !
Plus it really hurts when you read that ( See link below )
http://www.repubblica.it/2006/c/sezioni/cronaca/porfan/porfan/porfan.html
they spent 45 Million Euro ( 60 Million dollars ) on italia.it
and the government did not give 1 euro to to this website that we are managing and trying hardly to keep running ! So I am tretty demoralized myself about how they waste their money. the governemet could have finance thsi website and other similar very inexpensibely and et a good product - at least a product more to the taste of the US / Anglosaxon audience.
I guess that however a good thing that the Italian government did is to finally recognize the potential of the internet while Italian companies did not realize this yet. It was a good Idea flowly realized I assume.

Maybe if they began to get their priorities in order, they would crumble alot less too,

.......kind of nonsensical and light hearted artistically...that only italians somehow do so well.. it's ok. but the euros...whew. that's another facet of the italian mentality....overlooking the obvious..not caring about the cost...... lol
