I must first say that I really enjoy your site and find it very informative and interesting!

My family and I will be moving to Florence for an extended vacation if you will. It is my assumption that I will have the ability to renew VISA's at the local police office for the remainder of our stay?

I can't find info on VISA's for a stay over 6 mos. and unemployed. Any suggestions?

I am currently looking into having our car shipped over to Italy since renting one is quite costly. Any feedback?

Our other option was to purchase a car while there but I've been told that we need the Italian equivalent of a SSN and I can't find out how to apply for one or if we are eligable.

I've phoned the Italian Consulate LA several times, visited the website and sent an email regarding these items but haven't gotten any answers.

Do we need to purchase Italian health insurance? Our insurance here will reimburse us any expense while in Italy but am not sure what is required of us.
