Has anyone held a cooking class in their homes?
My wife and I attended about 6 Italian cooking classes while we lived in Italy and learned a lot ways to cook Italian. We want to start holding classes in our home for our friends but have not found the time to do so yet. We had our kitchen remodeled before we came home so we could do just that.
Hopefully we will start before the end of the year.
Has anyone had this experience?

:D

I have not personally held one in my home, but have attended one in someones home. I belong to a local italian organization. We get together every once and a while and hold a "Cucina Italiana" with different dishes each time. We usually charge about $6 a person just to cover expenses (obviously varies by number of people). We have a demonstration on how to make the specific food, then we have some wine, eat the food and then the dolce. It runs very smoothly

Sounds good to me. I don't think we have anything like that in area. I don't know if they would let a Dutchman join if we did:D
We will do someting similar but not charge anythign right away.Maybe we'll have people bring a good bottle of Italian wine(one that I suggest).

Yea we also ask that people bring some wine or dolce. Its nice because the food is always made from scratch, and no one is out too make a profit

Danno,

Just from experience, I would charge something minimal. I like the $6. per person that JoeItalia is talking about otherwise you will be footing the bill for a lot of food and the mistakes that people make. You need to cover your expenses.

I get a wide range of cooks at work. Some experienced, some not, mostly what I try to pass on is confidence. People are so afraid of messing up that they would rather buy frozen. (bluck) I like it if I make a mistake in front of them once in a while. A mistake is a useful tool to show how to fix it and that no one will die if you have to start over.

O.K. I'll stop now, I'm starting to ramble...*grins*

The first classes that we will hold will be with very good friends, so I'm thinking I will ask them to provide a good bottle of Italian wine that I can add to my collection.:D
