View Full Version : 1 room flat in Rome and living expences
Hello,
I'm a foreigner and if everything goes well I will have to move in Rome.
I'm interesting how much does it cost to rent for 1 year a 1 room flat near the Rome's Historical Centre (With term Including gas, water, electricity, internet and all related expences) and how much will cost life (transportation, food, little entertaiment :) )
Also I want to know how easy is to start little business. My wife wants to rent a shop and sell products from our native country?
Thank you in advance.
See you in Rome ;)

I regret to inform you that rentals are extremely expensive in the historical centre of Rome. A 'monolocale' could cost from 900euros to 1500 it depends on width, location, floor and if it's restructured or not. It's a paradox but small flats cost more than larger ones. It's not difficult to start a commercial business if you don't sell food or alcoholic. There are many restrictions on food commerce.

thank you for your responce.
If I come to Rome my work will be near the historical centre. What not expensive area can you advice to look for rents. if 2 room is cheaper I will rent 2 room apartment :)
Business about what I'm talking is importing footwear, wear and accessories.

Dear Neo,
Rome Historical Centre is rather huge (as Rome has more than twenty centuries of history, visibile throughout the city) so it depends on where you're supposed to go and work. Let me know the area and I'll be in a position to suggest you the best solution.
Anyway, you'd better rent a flat in the neighbourhood of a METRO station (metro is the underground railway).
I'm not sure that's difficult to open a shop of shoes, bags, gloves and belts. You can get all information at the Chamber of Commerce. I heard that commerce book-keeping is very complicated.

thank you again for your help.
The work place will be on the vittoria street, near vatican.
I'll search chamber of commerce website.
Thank you in advance for solutions :)

I don't know where Via Vittoria is. Anyway if you work around the Vatican City area, you can rent a flat in the following areas:
- AURELIO (The area around Via Aurelia)
- BOCCEA ( " " " Via Boccea)
- MEDAGLIE D'ORO/ VIA CIPRO (The area around Piazza Delle Medaglie D'Oro)
- TRIONFALE/ MONTE MARIO
These areas are a bit less expensive than BORGO PIO or PRATI (which are closed to the Holy Siege). Try to find an apartment that is not far from a METRO station.
OTTAVIANO is the metro station to reach the Vatican City (200 mtres from the Vatican Museums).
Please, notice that the Vatican City is not exactly in the Historical Centre of Rome (even if it's full of history, of course). We consider 'historical centre' the circle within Piazza Del Popolo/ Piazza Di Spagna/ Fontana di Trevi/ Largo Argentina/ Piazza Farnese/ Piazza Navona/ Piazza Adriana.
