Ciao. I can't believe that I will be in Rome in 17 days! My boyfriend and I have been planning our clothes for the trip. Was wondering if anyone could provide fashion tips for mid October in Rome. We absolutely don't want to look like we are tourists "trying to hard" to be fashionable, but, of course, we want to look like we fit in. Fashion is a hobby, ok obsession, for both of us. Thanks in advance for any help that you have. Have a great day! Joshua:cool:

Hi
There is a list of shopping Outlet at this thread
http://my.lifeinitaly.com/f40/shops-and-shopping-in-the-region-of-lazio-t1758/

In any case unless you really have to buy a lot I would suggest not to waiste too much time and just go downtown Rome around Via Del Corso
Another idea would be to contact a personal shopper who will show you ( hopefully ) the best way to save money on Fashion items - It will all depend on how much you plan to buy

Tennesseeguy - Save some money and some room in your luggage for purchases. Italy is a fabulous place to shop for fashionable clothes! You guys are going to knock 'em dead when you get back! Si diverta!

tennesseeguy - I agree with Jeanie - Italians certainly do dress well, but I've never met a gay guy that dresses badly either! I would come as you are and leave room for new purchases in your suitcases!

In Italy we call "FASHION" a gay man who dresses like a VOGUE model... Usually FASHIONS wear Gucci shoes, Diesel jeans, D&G underwear, Abercrombie T-shirt, CARRERA sunglasses... and walk in a cloud of BULGARI perfume :-):-):-) Being "fashion" means wearing (and exhibiting) 1000 euros of very cool stuff ! Being 'fashionable' means not to wear anything of that !

this is what i noticed when i went to italy over the summer...

both males and females wear fairly form-fitting clothing.. not unsightly tight, but slim cut enough to show off their toned bodies (and for some reason they ALL have nice bodies hahaha).

if you don't want to look like an american, don't wear bright colors. italians are very fashionable, but in a sophisticated, classy way. i saw a lot of neutral colors. in short, don't look like a forever 21 storefront (not saying you shop there, just an example of a store with bright trendy clothing lol).

accessorize. it's all about the small details i noticed.

i would also suggest you leave some room in your suitcase and just shop for clothes when you get there - their stuff is SO cute and then you won't have to worry about looking like you fit in :P

One thing that makes Americans standout is their tennis shoes. You won't see many Italians or Europeans wearing tennis shoes.
Have a great time!
