Was talking to a Korean friend the other day and he said
a gold medal winner from Korea(South) is set for life with a
life time salary. A U.S. gold medal winner gets $20,000
but no guaranteed life time salary per se.
So what does a gold medal winner from Italy get?

An Italian gold medal winner receives 150,000€, but they're heavily taxed (around 50%) and there's also been a polemic about this.

Well the 50% of 150,000 Euro is still above 100,000 dollars.
- PS I read that Chinese athletes that do not reach a medal are vilified in public. They are accused of using the state money for training for years for nothing !

ciao tutti
just came back from a week holiday which most of the time are spent watching the olympics...
its a pity that Italian athletes does not get the recognition that they deserved after winning the olympic medals of any color...
a 50% tax on the incentives that they get after winning in the olympics?
i know in malaysia a gold medal in the olympics will get you a 1 million ringgit incentives and thats equivalent to 250 thousand euros and a lifetime salary...since malaysian rarely wins an olympic medal, i guess thats is deserving to malaysian athletes...
