The point is that the person won the top honor, not whether or not the medal is actually gold. I haven't seen other country's winners biting the medal. Is this something generically Italian?

I don't think they're really checking if it's gold, they much more probably are just joking, but I had no idea on how it has started.

I've watched 800m freestyle women live at 4Am Italian Hour, and I've been so happy for Alessia to get second. Aldington was unreachable, really strong, but the Italian girl has made a wonderful job, great strategy.

I've seen the final of Super Heavyweight. Wonderful Cammarelle, he just destroyed the challenger, without ever losing control of the match.
His glances to Zhang were very scary :) and referees called KO at 3rd round. Really strong!

Probably I'm OT, but I wanted to talk about basket final.
Rarely I've seen such an adrenalinic, competitive and beautiful match!
Spain was really a great team, Pasol Navarro and Rubio made such unbelievable actions, but US team was really strong too.
I didn't expect Dwayne Wade to be such a leader in the field, not with Kobe in his team. Also Bryant played very good, while Lebron James seemed a little less effective than his usual.
I understand US wonderteam had to win this gold, all American basket lovers wanted this after Athens fall, and they made it.
I was supporting Spain, but I'm happy the same that they won, because for the first time I've seen US being a real team, with will to win and to play good, and most than all united.
Great match!
