I'm new on this forum and therefore I would like to introduce me.
My name is Gunther Desaever, I'm a Belgian engineer specialised in the restoration and renovation of historical buildings, country houses,...
Since 2000 I live and work in Tuscany as an engineer, recognised by the Italian law.
As a lot of you who one day would like to change the rainy, cold days for the sunny Italian weather, I took this decision in 2000.
After many years of renovation projects for Italian clients and foreigners finally I'm realising the renovation of my own country house. Last year we bought a property to restore in Tuscany.
Due to my profession and the fact that I'm living for almost 10 years in Italy, I have a lot of experience in the Italian building sector. So if you need some information regarding technical advice, Italian administration, permits, opening B&B, ... please don't hesitate to contact me.

Friends of the blog, if you are interested in seeing how Belgian engineers work... you'll have to go and visit Labro. Labro is a small breathtaking village in a marvellous breathtaking place: the hills around Lago di Piediluco (on the border between Latium and Humbria). It has been restored by some Belgians and now it's one of the most beautiful places in central Italy:

Suppongo che parli molto bene l'Italiano gia.

A proposito, was in Belguim a few years back. There were a lot of Italians living there.
Did a tour of this Belguim elementary school and they had a bilingual Italian program for the kids from Italy.

Are you what we would call in England a qualified structural surveyor/engineer? If so, do you have an insurance backed indemnity? Certainly I, and possibly others on this site, may be interested in your services. Best, Mark

I am what you would call in England a qualified structural engineer. In Italy before you can work as an engineer you must do an examination (called esame di stato), without this examination you can not take the full responsability for your own projects, this means that you can not put your name on your own projects. not interesting I would say. I'm inscribed at the Ordine degli ingegneri di Arezzo at number 1446.
About the insurance yes of course all the architects, engineers must have it.
