Hi Guys

I am looking to move to Italy from York and ideally looking for a 3-4 bedroom home in Italy to rent in quite frankly any area for a minimum of 12 months.

Anyone who knows of anyone or web sites your help will be greatly appreciated.

You should first pick an area - A large city rent is very different from a small rural town and it can be as high as 10 times as much - Do you need to work ? which area are you looking in first ? North - Center - South ??

Hi Paolo

Thanks for the reply. I am wanting to move to Napoli Campania region not an apartment looking for something 3 bedroomed at least and slightly rural. It has been impossible to find agencies who do long term rental as they all seem to be holiday let with extortionate prices. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Sophia

Sophia, I know Campania well, but you really need to decide where abouts you would like to be. At least narrow the area down a bit more and decide if you would like to be north, south or east of Naples and then I can give you lots of further info and contacts.

If I can give a suggestion, in Campania the better place to live is Benevento zone, if you look for something rural Benevento's countryside is perfect and pure, not destroyed by toxic wastes like Naples and Caserta areas. Benevento as a city then, is something really beauty and precious, without all the negative sides you can find in Naples and Caserta.
Just my 2 cents.

We all want one at 500 euros a month for a 4 bedroom villa! :D

I agree with Zidanie! Benevento area is lovely and you have a lot of choice of smaller places like Grottaminarda, Mirabella Eclano etc, and then even smaller places like Frigento, Sturno, Paduli, Apice etc,. Beautiful area and only an hour from Napoli. 2/3 bed villetta starts at about 450 euros a month for something unfurnished and in good condition.

Well only an hour is not completely true, it takes something more.
Oh Sturno wow what a place, I've also been to Grottaminarda and it's also breathtaking (and quiet)

Hi Zidanie and Aliena

Thank you so much for your helpful information, I will do my research on the areas you have given me. I am also struggling to find letting agents as they all seem to be holiday lets and 450-500 euros a month is amazing just do not know where to find such properties, 1200 euros is the maximum in rental I would pay.

Regarding Napoli is there a lot of crime in that area? and is it quite a poor area also? as when I look up news, there always seems to be something happening. I have been there a few times and it has always seemed fine a few beggars mainly women but never felt uncomfortable.

Zindanie if maybe you could possibly give me a better picture on life in Napoli seeing as you live there I would be grateful.

Regards

Sophia

I lived in Naples for 3 1/2 years and I personally never had a problem with crime. You just have to be aware of your surroundings as you would in any big city. If you are renting , your landlord and his family will look after you and some are "connected" so the criminals will leave you alone. I agree with Zidane about the Benevento region. There are a lot of Older Italians that love Americans because of what we did in WWII and they still show their appreciation. However , you may not find any work nearby.
Good luck.

Of course Italy is very grateful to all of the allies who fought and died to rescue their country, it is notable that more Americans of Italian descent died during World War 2 than any other immigrant population. It is also a not to well known well fact that the surrender of the Italian Army in Italy in World War 2 was accepted by a British Army camera man called Alan Wicker.

I never heard that one before, I'll have to check that out. There is an Italian/American that works down in Naples for the U.S. Military and his wife tells a story about when he was born. It seems that when the Germans were coming thru the Benevento mountain region, they were destrying everything in their path. One of the small villages moved up to a cave dug into a mountain to try and save themselves. They were up there for so long that they started to run out of food and milk for the newborn babies. A lot of children died before the Americans came thru and drove off the Germans. The Americans found the italians in the cave and gave them every bit of food they had with them thus saving a lot of lives. They called in reinforcements to bring more food to the people.
This Italian/American was born in the cave and still has lots of relatives in that region. If you go there and mention his name , the people will treat you like one of the family!
The Italians built a Shrine at the cave and to this day, still keep food in the cave so that if someone finds themselves hungry they will have something to eat. All they ask is to replace it.
True story.

Sophia going at university in Naples and coming from Benevento zone I live in both places, and I can tell you you can live good in both.
Obviously in Naples you must avoid dangerous places, but if you are a social person you will be very happy there because people is always kind to everyone. The same for Benevento zone but you have more quietness, silence and clear and pure nature.

I feel wonderful living in both places, I have movement and social life and also relax.
