View Full Version : Italy's population going down subito to a mere 41 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Villa 07-29-2008, 05:36 PM The population of Italy is currently around 58 million but it is projected to decline to a mere 41 million by 2050.
This seems to be contrario to popular belief. With all the expatriates from Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, America
and all over the world returning to Italy along with all the illegal immigrants one sees now a days in Italy
you would think that quite the opposite of this would be true. Non e vero?!
Considering its exceptonally low birthrate, United Nations experts estimate that Italy would need 300,000
immigrants a year just to maintain the present labour force.(low birth rate to deaths ect. ect.)
Don't know about you but I find this extremely affascinante and thought provoking. What are the implications here prego?(Pray tell)
A proposito, in contrast to Italy the U.S. will go to way over 400 million people by 2050 from its present population of 300 million.
jeaniegina 07-29-2008, 06:16 PM Villa - Molto interresante. Can you give us a link to your source for this information?

Zidanie5 07-29-2008, 07:31 PM I'm not sure low birth rate is something so bad, civilization tends to go that way since we became too much for this little planet.
In Italy the diminution of birth rate is mostly given by the fact that most youngsters aren't able to get out of their parents house before they are 28 or more, and reaching economic stability is something that happens very late to have a children, if it happens at all.
Anyways it's a good sign of ethic sense not to make kids if there are not the economic conditions to make them live good.
jeaniegina 07-29-2008, 09:17 PM Va bene, va bene, va bene!! I should learn never to ask you a question unless I have my Speed Reading skills up to par. LOL!! TMI!!
Thanks, though!
paolo 07-29-2008, 10:08 PM I am of the same opinion of Zidanie - A slow birth rate will be good - India with an estimated 1.6 Billion people will face real problems - I am surely glad that China did something in the previous years to contain the population growth - My point of view might be an egoistic one ( although not so much since I will not predict I will be here...) but It would be nice: less traffic - more available houses and more nature ...but the overall population is growing strong so that ( to me ) is no good !!!
PREDICTED POPULATIONS, 2050
1 India, 1,628m (2)
2 China, 1,437m (1)
3 United States, 420m (3)
4 Indonesia, 308m (4)
5 Nigeria, 307m (9)
THerefore I think the problem is India - not Italy
m1ke_l 07-29-2008, 10:13 PM hopefully it will be 41 million and 2 before then, since I hope me and my wife will be able to move to Italy for at least a little while someday!
Villa 07-29-2008, 10:25 PM Folks, it's only logical che a low birth rate is better.
Actually l'ultimo censimento in Italia ha stabilito che la popolazione italiana has grown up to about 59.500.000 inhabitants da 58.000.000 del 1996.
If you give a look at the italian politica sulla immigrazione, you will see that Italy has the lowest number of foreigners
among the european countries e che attualmente il governo italiano ha intrapreso provvedimenti molto duri against the clandestine immigration.
paolo 07-29-2008, 10:30 PM Hei Villa are you trying to fish us in another debate ?
You know - I already have my wife for that ....
Villa 07-29-2008, 10:45 PM Si! Perche no?
La sua moglie e come la mia allora?
Paolo, quando andrai in pensione? L'anno che viene.

THerefore I think the problem is India - not Italy
As mentioned by Paolo, India, China, Indonesia and Nigeria are not of rich economies and yet they still 'over produce'...
i think its due to low awareness in birth controls/ sex education especially in the use of contraceptives...
overpopulation has more harm than good..even now, there's already shortage of food supply..
i think its better for a country to try to balance out between the old population and the young population so that when the old retires, at least there's enough local manpower and human resources to steer the local economies...

... Sorry about my answer I did not want to start an immigrant debate just now ...lets give it a week rest before the next fight :-)
I have to keep my energy since my wife is here with me now.
