Can anyone recommend some Italian muscians to listen to? I've recently discovered Lucio Battisti and listening to his music has really helped me to learn Italian. Plus his melodies are fantastic.

This past summer while in Perugia I bought the Best of Fabrizio de Andre on 3 discs with all these songs and many more.
Has the lyrics anche. In the classes in Perugia we were taught many of these songs.

I think your translation is very good, my English is not so fluent but I think you made a good work catching the rythm of lyrics which are not easy at all.

Italian radios are full of garbage and speakers chat too much
(in addition to that many of them are senseless and idiotic). Anyway there's RADIO ITALIA - SOLO MUSICA ITALIANA that plays only good italian music.

I also think 'Il mio canto libero' is among the greatest italian song ever..but there's also 'Caruso'- i listen to the cover version sang by Lara Fabian and also 'Nessun Dorma'- a classic lyrica by Puccini (everytime i listen to it, i always get goosebumps)...

Lara's version is great.. but for me.. Lucio Dalla is the only one who should sing this song. Listen. Enjoy!

I did not do this translation, but only found it on Youtube, in the video of Lara Fabian, so all awards go to Daimn, the guy who put this version of Caruso on the tube, and who made the translation. Hoping he does not mind I post it here, because it can be useful and interesting, and it's very well done also.
Here it is:

I think it's very difficult to translate Italian songs into English - and keep all the feeling and emotion because it's so hard to find exactly the right words without taking too much license with the original words used. Sometimes the translation becomes very awkward and jerky. Perhaps it's best not to translate.. and if you can just get a feeling for the song in the original language, you wont go far wrong.

Anyway, just to give you a little taste.. here's my translation of the first part of the song. :)

Ancora in pallone - still in a daze ~ or ~ still in a spin.

I suppose there are lots of words we could use, for example;- dizzy, tizzy, daze, spin and perhaps, if you want to bring it into slang/up to date, then even "freak" could be used.

That's why I always say it's so difficult to get the right words when translating a "feeling" - especially with song/poetry. :)

Well that's a difficult question :)
In my opinion it is something really personal, each one can give his own meaning to the song.
More generally I think what the author describes is an old man (himself), looking back at the years, and following the timeline of his love story with that woman, talking about all contradictions that got born inside him.
I think the title is Canzone delle domande consuete just because the questions he puts in the song were questions he always asked himself.
The uncertainty of love, of his own feeling, expands to the whole world, so that while he ponders with himself whether he should let the woman go or not, also everything around becomes confused, at the point that cities can disappear.

Anyways, I know this humble "interpretation" of mine is probably much more confused than the song I'm trying to explain, but as I said before there is not one and unique sense, it's all up to you.
I suppose the listener is supposed to "feel" this song, not to understand it.

La canzone Vorrei mi piace molto - Ero solito ascoltarla 10 anni fa quando e' uscito il CD - Ma il mio Guccini e' ( purtroppo ) di qualche anno prima ... Anni fine anni 70- inizio 80

I can't possibly explain how much I love Guccini, the only one I worship more is the Divine Faber.
