Where do I start... My husband and I are back from a month stay in Florence with a couple of days at the end of our trip in Rome. This was a study abroad trip for us; I am a student at Texas State University art dept. Hubby, Norman, came along for the experience. Intro done.

You would think that an entire month would be enough, but there are so many things that we wish we could have seen, done, heard, experienced. But we did get to feel at home in Firenze. It was our home.

We lived in a lovely apartment at the corner of via dei Giraldi and Borgo degli Albizi (the Bargello was just down the block). This was such a great place. It was beautiful weather, cool and rainy... then turning just perfect. We walked everywhere, weaving among the tourists, traffic, motos, street sweepers, etc.

My art classes kept us busy attending all of the fantastic museums and drawing and making art day and night. (We got to sit at the foot of the David for hours!!) All that I can say is that I want to go back. Now I know my way around. I know where I want to linger some more.

Here are some other things we did and places that we got to visit:
Pisa, Lucca (there was an antique car & motorcycle event in the anfiteatro!!), Volterra, Montereggioni, Siena, San Gimiango (we went on a Festa day), Cinque Terre (Monterosso = Heaven), Fiesole, and finally Rome for way too short a visit.

It was kind of strange because while in Firenze we lived there - we weren't tourists. But we were tourists - gawking and looking around and taking pictures; but we also went to the markets to get our things for living like food and laundry detergent and band aids. It was weird.

Anyway, we would really like to go back, live in Italy for a while, it would be a dream come true.

I want to thank the members of this forum for all of their informative and helpful posts that I soaked up before the trip that made it easier for me in Italy. Y'all are great!

And also, I would like to offer my help to anybody that might be visiting the Toscana area. I may have learned something there that might help you make the most of your time.

Ciao for now - dmac
