View Full Version : Mi presento! Barolo 12-11-2006, 08:39 AM Ciao e saluti da Liverpool, UK. Nice to 'meet' you all!! :) I teach Italian to adult learners on Merseyside, UK. Raimondo 12-14-2006, 02:23 AM My name is Raimondo and I live in New York City. Thank you to Paolo for helping me to finally sign on to the forum. As I guess all of us are, I am entrhalled with all things Italian. I am a second-generation Italian-American (My grandfather arrived from Napoli by ship in 1910) As it was explained to me, because of World War II, most first- generation men wanted so much to be American, that they allowed their culture and heritage to slip away. My wife is Greek and she has introduced me to a life of European ways and I couldn't imagine living any other style. Earlier this year I began to study Italian. Adesso posso parlare un piccolo. Ho ritornato da il mio primo viaggio da Italia. Io e mia moglie abbiamo affitato un appartamento in Firenze. Ogni giorno era bellisima. (Native speakers, please feel free to correct my writing.) I am 42 years old and a writer. I have a novel coming out early next year which is based on the lives of three generations of Italian-Americans living in New York City. I look forward to making many new friends on this site. Saulte e auguri, Raimondo paolo 12-14-2006, 04:07 AM Ciao Ramimondo - Barolo / Raimondo, sono contento che tu finalmente sei online. If you want to have some fun help to learn Italian check out my list of fun Italian movies with English subtitles. Aslo let us know about your book - There is a book section here in the forum and I might add some articles on the website that will introduce people to books about Italy. Wow Barolo, hi from somebody who actually only lives 16 miles from you in Haydock, UK. I did attend evening classes in Ashton in Makerfield but found the course too touristy. We have a villa in Puglia and none of the locals speak English. Learning Italian for me is slow but getting there ciao :D :D :D Barolo 12-15-2006, 03:08 AM Wow Barolo, hi from somebody who actually only lives 16 miles from you in Haydock, UK. Learning Italian for me is slow but getting there ciao :D :D :D Ciao scatterbrain!! Apart from teaching Italian, I run a monthly meeting for learners/speakers of Italian which takes place on the 3rd. Tuesday of each month in Birkenhead on the Wirral. I'm in the middle of building a new web-site for the group (on MSN) - when it's completed, I'll send you the link via a private message. Good to 'meet' you, btw!! :) scatterbrain 12-15-2006, 08:13 PM Hi Barolo, thanks for the reply. I'll look forward to getting the web site address and may just join you if thats ok. Being a scoucer myself (Knotty Ash actually but no Ked Dodd jokes please :o ) I'll be really looking forward to coming over the water. ciao for now Barolo 12-16-2006, 04:10 PM Hey Scatterbrain! Sure, I'll send you the link over the next few days. You'd be more than welcome to come along to the meetings - in fact, we'll be tickled to have you join us!! (Sorry!! ;) ) The next one (next Tuesday) will be an 'extra-ordinary' one; being so near to Christmas many people will be absent so the ones who do turn up are having a 'posh butty' making lesson! (honest! I'll explain further if you really want to know!) No jam butties allowed!! contenta 12-24-2006, 04:55 PM Is it possible for me to receive your website on MSN here in US? Barolo 12-25-2006, 03:56 AM Hi Contenta, Sure, I'll send you the link. I've scrapped the MSN one - it was causing too many problems but am in the process of rebuilding the site on Yahoo. It's specifically for locals but you'd be welcome to join us on the site which was set up to aid beginners, as well as more advanced speakers of Italian. Watch this space!! :) contenta 12-30-2006, 03:12 AM Would someone respond as to what 'che pella' translated to English is. It is an expression which seems to be used quite a bit in some Italian movies. I'm guessing it's something like 'annoying' or some such thing. Hi Contenta, Haven't been here for a few weeks; hope you (and everybody here) had a nice Christmas and very best wishes for the New Year! Are you sure it's 'che pella' ? I've not heard that as an expression - maybe che palle ('palle is the plural of palla which means ball so you can guess what the expression means!!) You asked me, several weeks ago about the website I was working on - I can now give you the address. There's also a forum which you're welcome to sign up for. ..... Site: http://uk.group.yahoo.com/group/amiciditaliawirral/ Forum: http://steveandrews.proboards82.com/index.cgi You're one of the first I've told so you'll be one of the first, if not THE first to sign up! Take care and best wishes! Steve :) |
