I thought I would take a turn off of Justins thread about our favorite wines in Italia. While many of you have stated your favorites I too have my favorites. While travelling through many areas in Italy when we eat out I like to try the house wines that they offer. I usually ask for a half carrafe and if it doesn't satisfy I try something else. Most of the house wines that I have had were very good, sometimes very very good. And the cost savings can be great also. It is usually made in the region or even the town where I am visiting. So I get a little education also on the region. Many restaurants I have been to also reccomended the house wines. Anyway I thought this would be fun to throw out. There is truth in wine and I am still trying to get to the bottom of it!

Ed, couldn't agree with you more. vino di casa is the best way to go. I have been going to MV for 10 years and never drank any wine that made there. Guess I'll have to try it, if it's any good.

OK, here's one to try. The vino bianco della casa at Fufluns in Cortona is perfect for a warm afternoon. It is crisp, dry and is slightly frizzante. Perfetto! The bonus is that they make excellent pizza as well!

For a variation on vino della casa try vino alla spina - wine on tap. There are rosso e bianco and both are frizzante. Not necessarily good but certainly interesting.
