I am new to this forum and would like to see if there is anyone out there in Bella Napoli? I lived there for 3 1/2 years and just left a year ago before the trash fiasco started. I really miss my life there in Napoli.

Welcome Danno. I am not from Napoli but wanted to say that if you are ever up in the Annapolis, MD area, there is a great little Italian-owned restaurant in Pasadena, MD (just north of Annapolis) which is called Bella Napoli. The owner, Biaggio, is from Napoli and runs it with his 2 sons. The food is excellent.

Jean, thanks for the greeting. Those Napolitans go everywhere, there is an Italian restaurant here in Va. Beach called Reginello's and it's run by a Napolitano. It's fun to go in there and practice my Italian. Next time I'm up your way we'll try to see if we can find the Bella Napoli.

Danno, I lived in northern Italy in Vicenza for 2 years. While in Vicenza I took a
train to Rome and then on to Napoli. I remember taking a ride in one of those horse drawn
carriages in Napoli. Molto romantico. Was walking around the city when I saw some people
practicing fencing in a fencing school. Went in and wathced them practice.

By one count the metropolitan area of Naples is the second largest in Italy after that of Milan,
with more than 4,400,000 inhabitants. Piu grande che Roma?

Of course I went to Pompeii which I find to be very fascinating to say the least. Also went to the island
of Capri and into the Grotto azzurro. You have to duck your head down while in the row boat to get in there.
Some people swim into it. Molto bello!

Villa, yes Napoli is a very interesting city. The people seem to be so much more passionate than the North. It is one of those cities that you either love it or hate it. We loved it! I have been to Pompei probably 2 dozen times, I can give the tor myself. Everytime someone came to visit , they had to see Pompei. I finally got smart and took them to the entrance and said that I would meet them at the end. Then I would find a nice little ristorante and sit and drink cappuccino and watch the people and read.
I have driven the Amalfi coast a few dozen times too, I would drive to Vietri and drive back up the coast, on the inside, so much better.
We never got tired of going to the Amalfi coast, our favorite little town was Minori. That is where I learned to make real limoncello from a couple of sorrelle who had a little shop on the back streets.
The pizza is the best in the world and so is the cheeze! We really do miss it there, garbage and all:)

I have been reading some articles on how much in dis-repair it is. When I was there about a year ago (my last trip to Pompeii) there were a lot of places "under construction" and these same places were under contruction most of the times that I visited. I didn't realize that they had the money to do it but it was being held up. If they don't do something soon, it won't be a tourist attraction anymore, they say that tourism is already down about 13 % from last year. The economy won't be able to handle it. What a shame.
