Are you a Christian or a Catholic? This is a question

I was asked many times when I taught elementary, middle

school and high school. Now just yesterday a 36 year old

mature woman who is Catholic asked me this question again.

Just kind of sat there for a moment with my mouth open. Could not believe that

a grown woman would not realize that all Catholics are Christians or a part of

the Christian reglion. Her eyes got as big as plates when I tried to explain to her that

all Catholics are Christians.

I had really thought that adults now a days would know that a

Catholic is a Christian. What else can they be? If a Catholic is

not a Christian or of the Christian religion what are they? Jews,

Moslems, Devil worshipers or what. If you believe in

Jesus you are a Christian. The right question would be are

you a Catholic or a Prostestant? Asking if you are a Christian

or a Catholic makes it sound kind of like asking are you a

Christian or a Jew or are you a Christian or a Moslem.

There are of course 3 main branches of Christianity.

1. Catholics

2. Orthodox

3. Reformed Protestants or just Protestant

My Bible reading fundamentalist Christian brother-in-law
would of course try to tell you that Catholics are not Christians
because they believe in works or something like that. He
says that all you have to do is believe in Jesus and the
existance of God to get into heaven. He thinks Hitler is
in Heaven because he accepted God or believed in God just
before Hiltler shot himself.
Doesn't matter that he killed untold millions just
as long as he believed in God.

By the way the total membership of my brother-in-law's
church is about 9 people. He goes every Sunday and Wednesday
nights to this church. Oh, he doesn't like it when you call
it a chruch. It's called a chapel he says. Guest he belongs
to a sect of the Christian reglion.

Veramente. :) It's funny to see the looks one gets when you say that you are a "Christian Catholic" or "born-again Catholic", especially in the Southern US. It "does not compute" with many evangelicals...
