MY grandfather was born in Casandrino, Napoli about 1890. He came to America around 1906 and died before I was born. Does anyone know how I can get some info. (birth cert. etc.) about my grandfather???

I know this is several months old, but I see no one has responded. Please check out www.ellisislandrecords.org and do a search. I found a Teresa Casandrino that arrived in 1908 from Napoli. Good luck!

Back then, they weren't really doing birth certificates. Chances are, you'll have to go to a local parish (in Italy), pay off the Sacristan, and he might be so inclined to let you go through the hand-written volumes, until you can read the name. That is, if the church hadn't been burnt down or bombed in the meantime.

I just accompanied 3 generations of a family from nearby Cosenza and that's what we did. But, you still have to build the family tree, which would require months of research in the church records.

I'd try befriending relatives in the town. They'll know so much more.
