Since 2/3 of the world has voluntarily adopted English; isn't it fair that we accept other native speakers until they have time to learn English? I have taught ESL and watched people struggle to learn English which is a very difficult language to learn being a polygot language. English is no purebred language. English vocabulary is 40 to 60% Latin based. 12% of English vocabulary is from Greek.
Statistics and my experience of working with immigrants for 30+ years show that most of the grandchildren and or great grandchildren lose the language. Some of the times even the children of immigrants lose the parent's language.
When I was teaching English at night to immigrants we had a 2 year waiting list.
I would guesstimate that most of the people who agree with the video above or below have never been to college, or learned another language, or lived or traveled around the world and must think God is an American who speaks English only. We are a very small portion of the 6 billion people God has created in Her/His image. Very small indeed.
Other nations are not so xenophobic as some of us. Unskilled labor kills cattle, chicken and pigs we put on our tables; do we care what languages they speak? The new immigrants will learn. Give them time as we gave your ancestors time to learn. Our nation has always been built on slaves and/or unskilled labor for their food.
Jesus spoke Aramaic. When Jesus comes in the Rapture he might not take those who don't speak Aramaic. Maybe English is not a holy language. Maybe God doesn't hear our prayers said in English.
This is more of a fear issue about "foreigners and others." Paul spread the gospel to other nations; do you suppose he wouldn't speak to them because they didn't speak English?
My other complaint is that they don't put any signs up in Italian around here in Califonia!
