Italy-India: Media and literature can build bridges between civilisations

Rome, 15 Jan. (AKI) - Cultural exchange is necessary in developing ties between two countries and literature and the media both have a role to play in this regard.

This is the view of Indian author and newspaper man, M.J. Akbar (photo) who is in Rome for the presentation of the Italian version of his book, Blood Brothers.

"Unless you understand the culture of a nation, how will you understand it's market? How will you understand what people like?" said Akbar in an interview with Adnkronos International (AKI).

Akbar said he hopes that his story of three generations of a Muslim family in India and how they deal with the changing nature of Hindu-Muslim ties "is going to be a big window into India."

"Globalisation is not possible without international communication," he said adding that besides literature, the media too has significant role to play.

Akbar, who is the editor of The Asian Age newspaper, highlighted the efforts of the AKI - an Italian news agency, created by Giuseppe Marra's GMC media group. The Rome-based agency has a focus on the Arab and larger Islamic worlds.

"Dr. Marra is a brilliant man not because he just providing a great balance sheet, but brilliant in terms of innovative ideas. What he's doing is quite extraordinary," he said.

"What he's doing is creating a social, cultural and economic bridge between which two nations and two societies can find each other," he said.

Don't see any web sites. Mi dispiace.
