Hi all,
I've just received a cheque from a financial institution in Australia. I'd like to know if anyone has had any experience cashing a foreign cheque in Italy.
Thanks!

I did cash foreign checks many times by simply making a deposit in an Italian Bank Account. The exchange rate is not that bad either - so just ask your bank.

Hi paolo, just thought you'd find this amusing. I went to my bank on Monday to bank in my foreign cheque. Guess what? The cashier at the counter actually cashed it for me right there and then! I couldn't believe it. It's another one of those little ironies in Italy because when I deposit a local cheque, it usually takes a few days before it's cleared. I was prepared to wait for weeks for my foreign cheque to be cleared because I figured they'd need to send it back to the country of origin for clearing. Who'd have thought that it was easier to clear a foreign cheque than a local one!
