Anyone who followed the Road World Championship in cycling from Stuttgard, Germany?
My favourit rider Bettini was again unbeatable...:)

Standing on the podium he was handled an Italian flag from a "tifosi".
The flag had a special print on it - but what was it?
Political, religious, regional or other?
Bettini carefully rolled the flag to cover it!
Apparently he didn't want to show it to crowd and cameras

Ciao a Tutti !

In just a few short weeks the Giro d'Italia starts of in Sicily.
For the passionate cyclist the Giro is a much better race than the Tour de France.
Tougher climbs, more action, more color, not so predictable
- and - no discusssion - the most beatifull country and people :D

The last week of the race takes place in the northern Italy.
And I will be there with my bike :p

Stage 17 finishes in Locarno, Switzerland - on May 28th.
I will be there to watch this staying at the nearby Lago Maggiore.
(probably in Laveno Mombello)

The area north of Varese at the lake looks like true cycling land
and I will stay there for a few days riding around on my own.
Then I will move on to Edolo (by car)

Stage 20 takes the pro peloton over the epic slopes of Gavia and Mortirolo. - on Saturday 31st.
My plan is to ride the stage in front of the peloton starting out from Edolo.
The stage starts in Rovetta and passes Edolo after 90km.
If I start early I can use the gab to pass Gavia, coast through Bormio
to Mazzo Valtelina and climb up the Mortirolo (the hard way) before they catch me...

I've been there before, so I now what it takes to ride these roads :)

IF YOU HAVE ANY INPUT for this itenary please post!
- nice places to stay, things to see, cheap good restaurants, wine yards to visit,
any local information i.e. snow conditions on Gavia  and other comments are welcome!
