Any Italian over 40 will know are rembember with fondness carosello. At the beginning of the Italian tv transmission advertsing was scarce and was mainly done at Carosello time. I think it was 8:30 pm. Carosello had a bunch of video schetches that endorced one product or another. Most of the people my age will remember most of them.
I will add an article on the main website about carosello. For now enjoy

Watching the old Carosello reminded me of an entertainer in the late 50's and early 60's who starred in a Carosello ad for laundry detergent, I think it was Ola' but I'm not sure. He had a variety program with a partner (don't remember his name either) and had a catch phrase that got him in trouble and had to apologize to his audience, especially children watching the program. The catch phrase was "niente popó di meno che..." which translates to...nothing less than s**t, and he used it when introducing a guest star. For example, when introducing the great Domenico Modugno, he would say something like...e ora, diretto da La Scala, niente popó di meno che, Domenico Modugno. Does anyone know who this entertainer was? My brother and I just cannot remember.

Cannot remember, sorry. I was born in the the late 50s so that is too early for me. I did a little research but found nothing. For whoever reads Italian this is a good website
http://www.mondocarosello.com/html/personaggi.html

I definately need an English article on Carosello on this website.
By the way vpardini if you find more interesteg youtube carosello video you can insert the video easily just use (youtube)vidoid(/youtube) with square brackets instead of round. for for example this video

I loved to watch Carosello. The ads were clever skits which kept you guessing right up to the end about what product they were advertising...

For example I can't remember the product, I think it was some kind of hair cream but there was always a skit about a detective dressed up like Sherlock Holmes who solves the case at the end and someone always pipes up:"Inspettore, tu non sbiagli mai" and he replies: Non e vero, ho sbiagliatio una volta..." and he takes off his hat to reveal his bald head and goes on to say that his mistake was that he had not used the hair product...

I can still remember the advertising jingle for Bertoli:"Non e vero che tutto fa brodo...Bertoli" from the 50's and something called "Invermizzi Bic?"

I remember how much I despised all the commercials on US TV and radio when I first came here in 1966 but then Italian TV went private and house wives started doing strip tease shows and every possible form of XXX rated pornography went on the air...gone was the innocense...
